Rates and terms
Written out in full, before you walk in. Nothing here is decided at the counter except the value of your item.
What it costs
- Loan amount
- 80–90% of your item's collateral value, assessed at the counter against current market prices.
- Loan period
- 6 months, renewable
- Process fee
- RM0.50
- Interest
- Charged monthly on the loan amount, according to the branch:
-
Little India Klang only 1.5% a month for the first six months, then 2% a month after that.
All other branches 2% a month throughout.
At the end you can redeem your item or renew the ticket for another six months.
For each pawn ticket issued, including renewals. Monthly interest also applies. No valuation fee or separate renewal fee.
The 1.5% rate is exclusive to Little India Klang. All other branches charge 2% a month. Confirm the rate on your pawn ticket before you pawn.
What happens if you cannot redeem in time
Nothing happens suddenly. This is the whole six months, in order.
-
The day you pawn
We value your item and issue a pawn ticket. The six month period starts here.
-
Seven days before the due date
We send you a text message so the date does not arrive without warning.
-
The due date
Redeem your item, or renew it: pay the interest due and we issue a new pawn ticket with a further six month period.
-
If we have not heard from you
We write to you, and we call you.
-
Only after that
The item goes to auction.
You can stop it at any point
Right up until the auction you can renew. Pay the interest due and the ticket is extended by six months. If paying six months of interest at once is difficult, the app lets you pay one month at a time and push the due date back gradually.
Common questions
- How does pawning work?
- Pawning is a collateral loan. Our staff value your item against current market rates and offer a loan based on that valuation. The loan period is six months.
- What do I need to bring?
- A valid NRIC or passport. You must be 18 or older.
- What can I pawn?
- Gold in any purity from 375 to 999, diamond jewellery, luxury watches and designer bags. Gold is valued at the counter while you wait. The others are assessed individually, so call the branch or message us and we will arrange a time.
- What does it cost?
- Two things: monthly interest on the loan amount, and a process fee of RM0.50 for each pawn ticket issued. Nothing else. There are no hidden costs and no valuation fee. Renewing issues a new ticket, so it carries the same fifty sen and no separate renewal charge on top.
- What is the interest rate?
- Little India Klang offers 1.5% a month for the first six months and 2% a month after that. All other branches charge a flat 2% a month throughout. Confirm the rate at the counter before you pawn. It is stated on your pawn ticket.
- How will I know my due date is coming?
- We send a text message seven days in advance. Before any auction we also send a letter and call you.
- Can I extend the loan?
- Yes. Pay the interest due and we issue a new pawn ticket with a further six month period. Through our app you can also pay the interest one month at a time to push the due date back gradually.
- What happens if I cannot pay on time?
- Nothing happens suddenly. Seven days before your due date we send a text message. If the date passes and we have not heard from you, we write to you and we call you. Only after that does an item go to auction.
- What if my phone number changes?
- Tell us. Every warning before your due date goes to the number on your record, so a customer we cannot reach is the one situation where the process stops working as intended. Updating it takes a minute at any branch.
- I have lost my pawn ticket.
- Bring your NRIC or passport to the branch where you pawned your item and request a lost-ticket letter. Then take the letter to a police station to make a report, or make a sworn declaration (sumpah). Ask the branch to explain the next steps.
- How do I get my item back?
- Redeem it at the branch where you pawned it, during working hours, with the same NRIC or passport you used to pawn it. We check that the person redeeming is the person who pawned.
- Is my item safe?
- Items are held in bank-standard safe rooms and secure boxes, on premises guarded around the clock.
If anything here is unclear, ask before you pawn.
We will explain it in plain language, and you are not committed to anything by asking.
